Lincoln County Receives Unit of Excellence Award

The Lincoln County Unit of MRTA was award the Unit of Excellent Award at the MRTA Annual Meeting September 16-17.
The MRTA Unit of Excellence program is a voluntary program that is designed to help guide and direct local unit leaders, as well as, recognizing MRTA units that are the best in the state. Through the years, local unit leaders have found the guidelines to be a valuable tool in the management of their unit. To receive this award, a local unit must answer, “yes” to 25 of 28 questions.
Unit president, Diana Gough, accepted the award for the group.

The LCARSP Unit boasts nearly 90 members. They are an active group sharing information about educational and legislative issues.  They sponsor classroom grants for the county's four school districts and volunteer many hours within the community.  LCARSP members also enjoy traveling together including trips to Amish Country, Old Town St. Charles and Branson. Recently, a walking group, book club and crafting group have been formed.

September 2015 Meeting Notes

We welcomed three new retirees to our group. It was good to see the new as well as the "old" faces today. Jim Krieder from MRTA came and presented the program, updating us on legislation and the major roadblocks that our group has to be prepared for this year.

We are planning two "capers".
Some in the group are interested in going to Jefferson City for the haunted jail tour and possibly a visit to the MRTA office. I will check on dates on that one and get back to you.
The other is another "Painting with a Twist" class. Several went in July and enjoyed making an original painting to take home. This time we will be making a Christmas painting. Believe me, you do NOT need any previous training to be successful at this. The cost is $35. The date is Saturday, October 24 from 10 a.m.-12p.m. If you are interested, contact Maudean Lee.

We have three clubs outside the meeting dates.
One is the walking club. We will be meeting at the park across from McCoy Blossum Funeral Home on M/W/F at 7 p.m. and T/Th at 7 a.m.
Second we have a book club that is reading Time is a River, by Mary Alice Monroe. We will meet on September 23 from 1-3 p.m. at Jan Burlison's house to discuss and share snacks. The book for October is Natchez Burning by Greg Iles. We will be discussing that book on October 20 at Carol Willard's house.
Third, we have a craft group that will meet to work on decorations for the Regional Meeting. This meeting is scheduled for October 5 at 10 a.m. at Debby Suchland's house.
Please join the clubs if they interest you. You can contact me for more information.

The Regional Meeting is fast approaching. Mark your calendars for October 27!! If you were not at the meeting today, you can get registration information off the website at: LCARSP.blogspot.com You need to send Jane Allen your registration and $18 for the meal by October 9th.
Linda Mc has already checked on ordering the Ted Drewes ice cream cups for dessert. Carol Willard in still taking books of all kinds. Contact her, or bring them to the next meeting on October 8th. Margaret still needs stuff for the attendance bags. We are planning for 80+. We are bringing food items that we could put in the bags (wrapped candy, single serving crackers, etc) in October. Bonnie is gathering for the baskets to raffle for MRTF. At the October meeting we will be doing the last minute planning.

Finally, we are welcoming Senator Jeanie Riddle is October 8th at the Health Department. We will be back in the community room so we will have enough space for a big crowd. Please come and show your support to MRTA!

Thank You !!
