The Lincoln County Area Retired School Personnel met June 9, 2016 at the Lincoln County Health Department.
The program was presented by Annette Meyer of Edward Jones. She spoke on investments and the new rules and regulations by the Department of Labor going into effect April, 2017.
Treasurer reports $1,134.95 in the account. We decided to donate $20 to the veterans fund since George Conner gave a program on their honor flight.
Sickness & distress:
Several of our members and former colleagues are having health issues. Check your email for more information. On a lighter note, Jim Schulze has a charming video on youtube about his farm in Lincoln County. Check it out!
Community Service for May. 541 volunteer hours. $22 food pantry donations. Total donations (including Buddy Bags) $298. (Note: I took the Buddy Bag money and Walmart bags by Central Office. They were very glad to have the money and she noted they are almost out of bags)
Legislative Committee: Linda McG gave us an overview of the bill called RYH4K (Raise Your Hands For Kids) that will be on the ballot in November. MRTA and MNEA, among other educational groups have come out against it. This bill, among other things, will appoint a committee to distribute funds to private schools. There will be no check and balances, or accountability to those "appointed" committee members. Keep watch for more information and spread the word. This is NOT good for public education.
We signed up for the September luncheon. I will send that reminder of what you signed up for in August.
Capers: We have a trip to Bowling Green planned for June 24. We will meet at Walmart at 8:30 a.m. and go to Amish Country, then to Bowling Green for lunch and some shopping in downtown.
Another trip we are scheduling is a trip to the Lustron House in St. Charles. This is an all metal house built in the late '40s. This house is set up for tours, decorated in the style of the day.
Possible dates are August 18, 23, or 30. I will send more information when I have it available.
We decided to participate in the Education Foundation's "Stuff the Bus" on August 6. I will contact Lauren Fast and see how we can help out.
We will have information tables at the welcome back meeting for Troy, and Winfield. We are checking on Silex, and Elsberry. I will be asking for volunteers to meet and greet the teachers and distribute information about our grant and MRTA. Troy's welcome back day is August 6.
Clubs: Book Club will meet June 23 (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.) at Halo and Wings. The book is The Perfume Collector. Please bring your own drink and contact me if you are willing to bring a dish (salty or sweet)
Craft Club will meet September 6 at 10 a.m. at Anne's house. We will continue to make the notebook covers and microwave bowls. Contact Anne if you will bring a menu item.
Have a great summer
