Write the Governor & Sign MRTA's Petition

Dear MRTA:

Your cost of living adjustment (COLA) was reduced at the June 14th PSRS/PEERS Board meeting by a vote of the board. It will now be 0% and likely will remain 0% for some time to come. This is unacceptable and was not necessary. Retired educators did not and do not have a voice or representation on the Board of Trustees (click here for details). Our first step in restoring the COLA is a petition to the Governor. You may collect signatures on hard copy (click here to print) and have them faxed or sent to the MRTA office by August 15, 2016, or you may sign and encourage other voters and taxpayers to sign the petition on our website by clicking here.

MRTA also asks everyone to immediately call or write the Governor by clicking here. Please use your own words asking for these new appointments to the PSRS/PEERS Board of Trustees OR copy and paste the following wording.

Dear Governor Nixon:

As a voter and taxpayer, I ask for the immediate removal of Wayne Wheeler who sits in an expired seat as the retiree representative on the PSRS/PEERS Board of Trustees. I ask a new representative be appointed, no matter how short the appointment. I also ask the current vacant citizen seat on the PSRS/PEERS Board of Trustees also be filled, no matter how short the appointment.

These actions are necessary as the current retiree representative Wayne Wheeler is not representing the education retiree. He sits in an expired seat. I strongly feel education retirees do not have a voice in the decision making of the PSRS/PEERS Board. The PSRS/PEERS Board of Trustees voted on June 14 to reduce our pension benefits by reducing the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) to 0% when the CPI is 2% or below. This is a substantial burden to retirees of public education over time. As he held a position letter from MRTA recommending a different option, Mr. Wheeler, made the motion, then voted in favor of the COLA reduction to 0%.  I ask for your immediate attention to this important issue. THANK YOU

THANK YOU for being counted as a member of MRTA!
