Book Club organization meeting at 9:30 (prior to our regular meeting) Thursday, June 11.

Food Pantry for this month - Troy. Carol Willard told me that they needed peanut butter, soup, cereal or money.

Also, we collect for Buddy Bags every month.

Our program is from Nancy Lenk on Relationships.

Some things to consider...

• We decided in April to set up informational tables at Troy and Winfield "Welcome Back" teacher meetings. We need to plan and I need to order information from state.
• If you didn't get the sheet signed to bring food to the September Welcome meeting check you recipe book/box and try a new recipe! Always more fun to cook for a crowd!
• Need to nail down details for the Regional Meeting in October.
  
• Don't forget the website... lcarsp.blogspot.com
• The Schwanns fundraiser - we get 5% til the end of the year. Check with Debbie Suchland for details.

Mission
The Missouri Retired Teachers Association and Public School Personnel organized in 1960 is the only educational organization in Missouri working exclusively for retired school personnel. MRTA will work actively with government and its entities for beneficial legislation. We shall strive to increase membership until all retirees become members, and always foster good fellowship. We will encourage members to be involved in community affairs and work for worthy educational causes. Our mission is to serve and not to be served.

Vision
The Missouri Retired Teachers Association and Public School Personnel is a caring, active, and knowledgeable community. Members give their talents and time to support retired and active public school employees. Members strive to uphold and improve the integrity, value, and mission of our public schools, so that all school personnel may live healthy, vital lives and be secure economically, socially and professionally in retirement.

Our motto is “To Serve, Not To Be Served.”

Membership:

Membership shall be open to retired teachers of public, private and parochial schools, administrators, supervisors, retired school employees, non-certificated personnel who have worked in educational programs, governesses and tutors. Spouses of members, active teachers and others interested in education may become associate members without the right to vote, hold office or represent the Association.

Dues:

Dues for active, associate and life members shall be determined by the Assembly of Delegates upon the recommendation of the Executive Board. The fiscal year for MRTA begins January 1 and ends December 31. Renewals of membership are due upon receipt of notice in October of every year.  New members paying dues after May 1 may regard their dues paid through the next calendar year.

2014 LCARSP Classroom Grant Recipients

Lincoln County Area Retired School Personnel Award Classroom Grants

Three $200 grants were awarded recently to several local teachers.  These funds will enable them to purchase supplies that will enhance their classroom instruction.       

Classroom Grant Applications were distributed to each of the four county public school districts (Silex, Elsberry, Troy and Winfield) and were open to those teaching Pre-K through 12^th grade.  Teachers were asked to describe their class and how the funds would be used.  Applications were submitted by teachers from three of the four districts.

Jill Kinion, Silex Kindergarten teacher, plans to use her grant to purchase a document camera for classroom instruction.

Sherry Hollenbeck, Special Education, Algebra 1 and Physical Science teacher at Troy Ninth Grade Center, will use her grant money to buy two triple beam balances and 12 calculators so the students in her class do not have to share equipment to complete assignments.  This will allow for more student engagement and interest.

Courtney Kirwan, Art Teacher at Winfield Middle school, shared that last year, the department’s kiln (pottery oven) was repaired and instruction in clay art could again be offered.  Currently, students are using pencils and paperclips to do their sculpting.  Ms. Kirwan plans to purchase the appropriate supplies to correctly teach her class.

The Lincoln County Area School Personnel plan to make these Classroom Grants available each year to our local school districts.  Members feel it is a great way to thank our local teachers for encouraging a new generation of lifelong learners.
