Dr. Penny Speaks To Area Retired School Personnel

The April meeting of the Lincoln County Area Retired School Personnel (LCARSP) was held on April 12 at the Lincoln County R-III administration building.

The meeting began with a program presented by the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Penny.  Dr. Penny highlighted the many accomplishments of the school district with a power point presentation to the group.  The accomplishments included Seniors helping Seniors, district technology, curriculum, advancement student performance, programs at the new performance center and much more.

Dr. Penny noted that in addition to the FEMA Safe Room at the new Performing Arts Center at Troy Buchanan High School, the band and choir room at the new Troy South Middle School is also a FEMA Safe Room.

The group appreciated Dr. Penny's and the District's commitment to the students and the safety of the community.

The Lincoln County retirees continue to serve the community with service hours reaching 2,000 hours.  In March, they made food and monetary donations to the Troy Food Pantry.  The April collection went to the Elsberry County Cupboard and in May, the focus will be the Hawk Point food pantry.  Members are continuously supporting students with ongoing contributions to the Buddy Bags program.

The Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation (of which LCARSP is a subsidiary unit) has six $500 grants available for Missouri district teachers.  The deadline to apply is June 30, 2017.

Speaking of grants, LCARSP craft club members have been very busy creating items for the home.  Some have been donated to those in need but some will be for sale with proceeds going to their Teacher Grant program for all Lincoln County Area School Districts' classroom teachers.

On the fun side, a group of members got creative at the Painting With a Twist session.  Members are planning several capers including a visit to the Amish Country around Bowling Green, the Warm Springs Ranch in Boonville and Shakespeare in the Park event in Forest Park.

The next meeting will be Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Lincoln county Health Department.
